Stop #2...Maine

After leaving the wedding in New Hampshire, we made our way over to Maine.  More specifically, Bar Harbor.  What a beautiful little town.  On the coast, lots of boats in the harbor, and a quaint little shopping area.

We explored "downtown" Bar Harbor and spent some time on the docks taking in the views...

Bar Harbor at Night...

The main purpose of our time in Maine was to explore and visit Acadia National Park.  We had heard phenomenal things about Acadia and its beauty.  What we heard was no lie.

We traveled the 27 mile loop around the park - getting out (frequently) to take in the sights and capture its beauty.

The timing in the park couldn't have been better.  The foliage and fall colors were as vibrant and breathtaking (if not more) than those we saw in Vermont and New Hampshire.

We came across a sandy beach, where the girls felt the cold water of the Atlantic Ocean...

The rocky cliffs along the coast offered some exploration and hiking.  This nervous mama could hardly watch her family climbing near the edge of the cliffs.  For real.  Ask my girls how many times I asked them to stop climbing and come back near me.  Too many to count. Ugh.

After exploring all that the park loop had to offer, we had heard that there was a lighthouse "near" the park that was worth the drive to see.  Supposedly it was the only lighthouse in the area, and it sounded like it was a good one.  We weighed whether we should make the 40-45 minute drive to see it or not, and chose to adopt the "When in Rome..." philosophy.

After seeing all the beautiful scenery in Acadia, I had visioned the lighthouse to be something like this...

So after the long drive, and a battle to find a parking spot, we arrived.  And wouldn't you know, it looked nothing like what any of us imagined.  Major letdown.  Major.

But we snapped a family picture to prove we were there...

While there we took the opportunity to climb a few rocky cliffs and snapped a picture of it from a different angle.  This angle is MAYBE a smidgen bit more impressive, but barely.

Oh well, it was still a pretty drive over there with some pretty amazing company!  The trip didn't stop in Maine, however.  Next stop... Boston, MA.
