One afternoon, we also went to the Dolphin Rescue Center. We were able to see some dolphins interacting with one another. It was neat to see them do their thing and play with one another in their habitat.
We took in some miniature golf one day as well...
The match was a close one, but ultimately Ryan came out victorious!
One evening, we were able to see a group of manatees down by the docks. It was hard to capture a good picture, but this was as good as it gets.
On the last day in Key West, we took a ferry ride out to Dry Tortugas National Park. It is a 2 1/2 hour boat ride out there and equally back.
The ferry is the only way to get to this National Park, unless you take a sea plane or your own boat, but very, very few people take their own boat as it is a long way from land and the waters are VERY choppy.
The fort itself was spectacular to see. It was great to hear the history of the fort itself and how the conditions building it and maintaining it were deplorable. The size of the fort and its features were pretty incredible though.
The snorkeling life around the fort is supposed to be amazing. We gave it the good old college try and attempted to snorkel. Sadly, we also learned that it is still considered "winter" in Florida and as such, waters are choppy and the waters are murky. It was a big fail at seeing any fish.
The boat ride home was a story in itself. While the time was still the same (2 1/2 hours), I think most people on that boat could attest that it felt much longer than that. Because it is "winter", the waters are much chopier and we took on some BIG waves. There were multiple sick people that sadly had to endure the 2 1/2 hour trek.
Ryan and I agreed that the trip to Dry Tortugas National Park was well worth the boat ride there, but don't ask Sullivan if it was worth it. She will admittedly disagree.
All in all, it was a great trip to the Keys. We saw some great things, and soaked in the Florida sunshine. The only thing missing was Quinn. She was definitely missed.
