Last Year of Being a Teen...

Yesterday marked Quinn's 19th Birthday....  the last year in her teens!

Sometimes growing up has its perks, other times it doesn't.  Quinn spent the majority of her day studying for, and then taking, her Quantitative Chemistry final exam.  We picked her and Paul up in the evening after she finished and took her out to eat.

After dinner, it was home to enjoy her birthday dessert - Rice Krispie Bars two ways!

Birthday candles were lit, we sang, and Quinn ATTEMPTED to blow out the candles.  Turns out she doesn't have much wind in her sails.  Maybe her exam took it out of her!

She only got 2 out of the 11 candles blown out.

While the day wasn't the most exciting for Quinn, there was some relief to know that she was done with school and the first year of college was behind her (minus two take home exams that she will do this weekend).

Happy Birthday, Quinn!  We hope #19 is the best one yet - full of love, laughter, and many amazing adventures ahead.  We love you!

Moving....

Ryan and I traveled to Ohio this past weekend to help move my mom's things back to SD.  We were lucky enough to spend some time with Matt and Judson, who were there to drive the U-haul back to SD.

Enjoying a little dinner after a long day's work...

The move went faster than expected and the boys (and us) were able to get on the road a day early.  Because of some road construction on the West Virginia interstate, we ended up taking a back road to avoid the chaos.  IT turned into a happy accident, because we realized we were only a couple of miles away from the National Park in WV.  You know what they say... "when in Rome..."

We ended up taking a couple hour pit stop to check it out and see what it had to offer.

Turns out it is a pretty neat park, which is far more extensive than we realized.  We only scratched the surface of it with this visit.  We will definitely be back to explore more, and perhaps do some white water rafting.

The park is absolutely beautiful!  We feel so lucky to have stumbled upon it, and to have been able to make and impromptu visit.

Oh, and don't kid yourself.... we stopped at Taco John's both on the way there and back.  Because again, "When in Rome..."

Sixteen Candles....

It is the sweetest of birthdays for Sullivan Grace today, as she celebrates #16.

The day started with a birthday breakfast of choice - Chick-Fil-A (and a birthday wish)...

Followed shortly after by presents (because who can wait?!)...

Sullivan was lucky enough to spend the afternoon and evening with her two best friends, Fabi and Mackenzie.  They are truly such great friends!

Sullivan got to choose dinner out tonight, and it came as no surprise that she chose Shake Shack...

The night ended with some cake...

And a few more birthday wishes.  Turns out Sullivan has two boyfriends this year, or at least that's what her candle blowing out abilities claim.

It is truly hard to believe that Sullivan Grace is already 16 years old.  It seems like yesterday that this spunky, strong-willed joyful baby completed our family.  In the blink of an eye, she has grown into a beautiful, still spunky, still strong-willed, still joyful 16 year old.

Happy Sweet 16th, Sullivan.  We love you more than you will ever, ever know!

More of Key West...

One afternoon, we also went to the Dolphin Rescue Center.  We were able to see some dolphins interacting with one another.  It was neat to see them do their thing and play with one another in their habitat.

We took in some miniature golf one day as well...

The match was a close one, but ultimately Ryan came out victorious!

One evening, we were able to see a group of manatees down by the docks.  It was hard to capture a good picture, but this was as good as it gets.

On the last day in Key West, we took a ferry ride out to Dry Tortugas National Park.  It is a 2 1/2 hour boat ride out there and equally back.

The ferry is the only way to get to this National Park, unless you take a sea plane or your own boat, but very, very few people take their own boat as it is a long way from land and the waters are VERY choppy.

The fort itself was spectacular to see.  It was great to hear the history of the fort itself and how the conditions building it and maintaining it were deplorable.  The size of the fort and its features were pretty incredible though.

The snorkeling life around the fort is supposed to be amazing.  We gave it the good old college try and attempted to snorkel.  Sadly, we also learned that it is still considered "winter" in Florida and as such, waters are choppy and the waters are murky.  It was a big fail at seeing any fish.

The boat ride home was a story in itself.  While the time was still the same (2 1/2 hours), I think most people on that boat could attest that it felt much longer than that.  Because it is "winter", the waters are much chopier and we took on some BIG waves.  There were multiple sick people that sadly had to endure the 2 1/2 hour trek.

Ryan and I agreed that the trip to Dry Tortugas National Park was well worth the boat ride there, but don't ask Sullivan if it was worth it.  She will admittedly disagree.

All in all, it was a great trip to the Keys.  We saw some great things, and soaked in the Florida sunshine.  The only thing missing was Quinn.  She was definitely missed.
