An Icy Adventure...

This winter couldn't get any longer. The cold, the wind, the snow and the fog (yes, fog) have cancelled or postponed several days of school so far this year.  Despite the cold and nasty winter, Quinn and her friends took to an icy adventure and went ice skating.  

They didn't brave the super cold and go outside to skate - rather they enjoyed the winter activity indoors.  Who can blame them?!

How Much?!

We've all pondered the question... How much wood could a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck wood?!  But I was left pondering this question the other night... How many creatures can one bed hold, if one bed can hold creatures?

I guess at the minimum three (very loved) creatures plus 54 blankets and cuddlies and such!

A Sweet Deal...

Ryan and I attempted to surprise the girls with a trip to Disney in April.  Those plans were foiled several weeks ago when we figured out we have the next Sherlock Holmes and Perry Mason on our hands.  The girls somehow, someway figured in out. 

Since the plans of the surprise went by the wayside, I used Valentine's Day as a way to give the girls some of the Disney stuff they wanted before hitting the theme parks. 

I created a "Sweet Deal" punch-out board for each of the girls...

The game came with a bit of a twist.  They were told they could keep only one of the gifts inside.  They could punch out one hole.  If they didn't like the contents, they could give it back and try one more time. 

They each took their first stab at the board - Sullivan going first.

Next, Quinn took her turn...

Surprisingly they both ended up with the same gift - Disney pins that they wanted and a lanyard. 

Both liked the gift - meaning they stopped the game and didn't punch out the rest.

Now it was never my intent to return the other items.  Of course they were going to get what was in the other punch-outs.  But the girls couldn't know that. 

After school, I told them they could double down.  They had a chance to open one of two envelopes - one was a winner and the other a loser.  They both decided to try for the win and (thankfully) they both came out on top!

They were able to punch out the rest of the prizes and enjoy their sweet surprises.  

Valentine's Day was truly a sweet day!

Sleepover...

The effects of a late night sleepover...

Sullivan couldn't make it through the afternoon without catching a little shut eye to make up for the lack of sleep last night.

Natural Ballerina?

Sullivan's good friend, Maddy, has taken dance class for several years.  This week her dance group had a "bring a friend to class" night and Maddy invited Sullivan to come along. 

Sullivan was all over that invite and was super excited to go with Maddy to class.

Afterwards, Maddy told Sullivan that she did a great job and was a natural ballerina.  I'm not sure if that is the case or not, but Sullivan had a blast and that's all that matters!

Arsty Fartsy...

Sullivan Grace is the queen of craftiness.  She has been more than busy creating some beautiful treasures lately.

Sullivan went to her friend's birthday party that was at an art studio...and created one of the cutest unicorns imaginable.

On one of our several snow days recently, Sullivan decided to do a little art project for part of her e-learning assignments.  She has BIG dreams of going to France someday, so she created the skyline of Paris.

And finally, Sullivan decided to fold origami and make her own valentines for all her classmates... so sweet!

Sullivan loves her a good art project and is darn good at them!

Future Scientist?!?

As part of Quinn's science class, they were required to construct a science fair project.  They had to come up with an idea, do the experiment, and present it to their class.  Quinn worked with a classmate, and together, posed the question, "Does Light Affect Pitch?"

They tested an instrument, in this case a flute, to see if it is more in pitch in the light or the dark.  After several trials, it was determined that light (or lack thereof) does affect pitch.  So I will quiz you...do you think an instrument is more in pitch in the dark or light? 

Quinn and Madeline's findings showed that it was more in pitch in the dark...go figure!

After presenting to their class, everyone was given the opportunity to take their project to the science fair.  Extra credit was on the line, so Quinn and her partner were quick to jump on that.  The science fair took place tonight, and I am happy to report that Quinn and her partner were two of the ten people selected from her school to attend the regional competition next month.  What an honor!

So, so proud of Quinn and Madeline for their hard work on this project.  We might just have a future scientist on our hands with Quinn.  That would make her dad very proud!  

Trumpet Ensemble

Quinn, along with three of her classmates, entered a Band Solo and Ensemble that was held this weekend.  

Leading up to the performance, Quinn practiced and practiced her part until she began to despise the song itself.   Despite that, her quarter did an amazing job at the contest.  

The song they preformed was called A Mighty Fortress is Our God. You can watch and listen to their performance HERE.  

After the performance, they waited in anticipation for the scoring from the judge.  Minutes seemed like hours, but the waiting was worth it.  The quartet scored gold!  

Very exciting and much deserved - way to go, Quinn (and her classmates)!
